Work out your snowboard size. You'll find your board in the shop.
Snowboard length depends above all on weight, then on height. Four figures plus your riding profile give you a range in cm, along with width, flex and binding size.

Which snowboard length suits me? Why a range and not a single number
Board length is governed first and foremost by weight; height serves as a plausibility check. The lower end of the range follows the manufacturers’ weight-led logic, the upper end the usual retailer charts. Both schools of thought are reasonable — hence a range rather than a single number. The recommendations in reputable size charts differ from one another by up to 10 cm.
The old rule of thumb “stood on end, between chin and nose” is outdated as a formula because it ignores weight. It still works as a quick visual check in the shop — the drawing shows you that the range fits it.
For children under 150 cm or 45 kg the page deliberately gives no figure in centimetres, but the visual check between chin and nose.
| Weight | Height | Board length |
|---|---|---|
| 50 to 55 kg | 145 to 151 cm | 128 to 136 cm |
| 52 to 62 kg | 152 to 157 cm | 133 to 141 cm |
| 60 to 65 kg | 158 to 162 cm | 139 to 147 cm |
| 65 to 70 kg | 163 to 167 cm | 144 to 152 cm |
| 67 to 75 kg | 168 to 172 cm | 149 to 157 cm |
| 72 to 79 kg | 173 to 177 cm | 154 to 162 cm |
| 76 to 83 kg | 178 to 182 cm | 159 to 167 cm |
| 80 to 87 kg | 181 to 185 cm | 164 to 172 cm |
| from 90 kg | over 185 cm | over 170 cm |

How wide does my snowboard need to be? The boot decides, not the shoe size
What matters is not your shoe size but the outer length of your snowboard boot — and that varies from brand to brand for the same EU size.
One to one and a half centimetres of overhang at the front and back is just right — that’s what lets you steer the board on its edge in the first place. More than that becomes a problem.
| Shoe size (EU) | Width | Waist width |
|---|---|---|
| to 41.5 | Regular | approx. 24.5–25.5 cm |
| 42 to 43.5 | Regular to Mid-Wide | approx. 25.0–25.9 cm |
| 44 to 45.5 | Mid-Wide | from approx. 25.9–26.3 cm |
| from 46 | Wide | from approx. 26.5 cm |
Which flex and which binding size? What to look for in the shop
If you’re on the heavy side for your height, the board can be a little stiffer; if you’re on the light side, a little softer. Flex ratings aren’t comparable between brands — a 4 from one brand can feel like a 6 from another.
The binding has to fit your boot, not your shoe size. Put the boot in the binding in the shop — it should sit centred and finish flush at the front and back.
| Shoe size (EU) | Binding size |
|---|---|
| to 31.5 | XS |
| 32 to 34.5 | Youth |
| 35 to 37.5 | S |
| 38 to 40.5 | S |
| 41 | S, borderline to M |
| 41.5 to 42.5 | M |
| 43 to 44 | M, borderline to L |
| from 44.5 | L |
This chart comes from one manufacturer (Burton). Other brands size differently — treat it as a starting point, not a measurement. Check the mounting pattern: 2×4, 4×4 or Channel. Not every binding fits every board without the right disc.
Do some brands size shorter or wider? Manufacturer charts compared
Example: 175 cm, 75 kg, groomed runs. The calculator gives 152 to 162 cm. Manufacturers list a rider weight range for every board length; for one popular all-mountain model per brand we checked at which length 75 kg sits roughly in the middle, and compared the waist width.
| Brand (model) | Length for 75 kg | Width | Wide/mid-wide recommended |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burton (Custom) | tends to be shorter, approx. 155–156 cm | normal (156: 25.2 cm) | earlier, from approx. EU 43–44 |
| Capita (D.O.A.) | tends to be shorter, approx. 156–158 cm | normal; W sizes at 25.8–26.0 cm closer to mid-wide | earlier, from approx. EU 43 |
| Jones (Frontier) | approx. 156–159 cm, lower half | normal (156: 25.2 cm) | earlier, depending on length from approx. EU 43–44.5 |
| K2 (Passport, Gateway, Embassy) | no clear tendency, very wide weight ranges | depends on model: Passport normal, Gateway and Embassy narrower (approx. 24.7–24.9 cm) | no information found |
| Lib Tech (Terrain Wrecker, Cold Brew) | no tendency, only a minimum weight is given | tends to be wider (approx. 25.5–26.2 cm) | no information found |
| Never Summer (manufacturer chart) | tends to be longer, approx. 156–164 cm | slightly wider (Proto Type 3, 155: 25.4 cm) | earlier, from approx. EU 44 |
| Nitro (Team) | tends to be shorter, approx. 157 cm | normal (157: 25.2 cm) | same as the calculator, from approx. EU 45.5 |
| Ride (Agenda) | tends to be shorter, approx. 155 cm (very wide weight ranges) | normal (155: 25.2 cm); 157W at 26.2 cm closer to mid-wide | no information found |
| Rossignol (One) | tends to be shorter, approx. 156 cm | normal (156: 25.2 cm) | slightly earlier, from approx. EU 44.5 |
| Salomon (Assassin) | approx. 156–159 cm, lower half | normal (156: 25.3 cm) | slightly earlier, from approx. EU 44 |
Bottom line: almost all brands land in the lower half of our range; the upper end comes from retailer charts. Most boards have a waist of around 25 cm, Lib Tech tends to be wider, some K2 models narrower. Many manufacturers recommend wider boards from EU 43 to 44.5, i.e. earlier than our chart. And not every “W” board is truly wide: many sit at 25.8 to 26.2 cm, closer to mid-wide.
As of 9 Oct 2026, one model per brand, manufacturer data (partly via retailers). EU sizes are converted from US sizes and therefore approximate. Other models of the same brand may differ, and model years change. For HEAD and Arbor we found no reliable data.
These are rules of thumb drawn from the usual size charts and a good starting point for a chat in a specialist shop, not binding purchasing advice. Before you buy, stand on the board in your own boots once. Snowboarding stays a sport with risk, whatever length you ride.
